Elettaria Cardamomum Maton

English Name:- Cardamum fruit.

Botanical Name:- Elettaria cardamomum.

Family:- ZINGIBERACEAE.

Parts Used:- Dried fruit and Seed.

Habit:- A perennial herb with thick root stock, leaves large lanceolate, hairybelow.

Taste:- Acrid.

Chemical Constituents:- Seeds contain: Starch, Volatile oil which Contains Cineol, Terineol, Terpenene, Limonene, Sabinene and Terineol in the form of Formic acid and Acetic acid. It also contains Nitrogenous gum.

Actions:- Powerful aromatic, Stimulant, Carminative, Stomachic, Analgesic, Refrigerent, Diuretic.

Used In:- Cough, Asthma, Piles, Tuberculosis, Disuria, Indigestion, Diarrhoea, Flatulence, Abdominal pain, Nausea, Vomiting, Scabies, Culculii and Throat disorder.

Usages

  • It cures indigestion vomiting, nausea and pulmonary diseases.
  • It can be used with a laxative to prevent stomach pain, gripping as well as flatulence.
  • Its seeds are used to sweeten the breath and to detoxify caffeine.
  • Its seeds are used as a spice in cooking and as a flavoring agent in other medicines.
  • The oil of its seeds is very good for digestive system.
  • It functions as a laxative and sooths, colic, wind and dyspepsia.
  • It also works to warm the stomach and helps cure heart burn.
  • It is used to treat infections of gums and teeth.
  • It is used to prevent throat troubles, congestion of the lungs, pulmonary tuberculosis and inflammation of eye lids.
  • It is used to remove gall stones and kidney stones.
  • Its seeds are bruised and fried and are used in baking dishes.
  • It is used to make several Indian traditional medicines.
  • In many countries it is used to treat stomach aches, constipation, dysentery and other digestion problems.
  • Tskao’ a variety of cardamom cultivated in Yunnan and China is used for both medicinal purposes and as a spice.
