Family:- ASTERACEAE.
Parts- Used:- Roots, Leaves and Flower.
Habit:- A perennial procumbent herb, leaves compound bipinnatisect, flowers yellow in heads (Capitulum).
Taste:- Bitter.
Chemical Constituents:- Plant contains Alkaloids, Protein, Sugars and Volatile oil, Aluminum, Iron, Potassium, Magnesium, Polyacetylenic compounds, Pellitorine, Anacyclin, Enetriyne, Hydrocarbolin, Insulin, Sesamin, Tyramineamides.
Actions:- Silagogue, Stimulant, Sedative, Antibacterial acrid.
Used In:- Toothache, Paralysis, Rheumatism, Epilepsy and in sexual disorders in males.
If the root powder of this herb is taken in a dose of more than o.5 to 1gm, it results in nausea, bleeding, increases heart rate and unconsciousness etc. In such conditions milk and other Pitta pacify measures should be used as a anti dose.
